DeGuzman records singles win as Wildcats lose to Lake Stevens

The Oak Harbor High School tennis team dropped a 5-2 match at Lake Stevens Wednesday.
The loss evened the Wildcats’ record at 1-1 for the season. The Vikings are 2-0.
Junior David DeGuzman picked up Oak Harbor’s only win in singles, coming out on top in fourth singles 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
In second doubles, the Oak Harbor duo of juniors Geoff Worley and Kevin Gagen won 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The Wildcats lost in No. 1-3 singles. Juniors Josh Evans (6-3, 6-2), Max O’Dell (6-0, 6-2), and Ben Cardinal (6-3, 6-1) all fell in straight sets.
In first doubles action, juniors Brandon Vagt and Chase Edwards were beaten 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Ben Harrison and freshman Will Southard lost in three sets in third doubles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Coach Horace Mells said, “All the players played well and gained valuable experience which should enhance future play.”
The Wildcats host Stanwood at 3:45 Monday.
