Reedy sixth at state golf tournament

Oak Harbor senior golfer Phil Reedy shot two great rounds on the par-72 Canyon Lakes Golf and County Club course in Kennewick to finish in sixth place at the Class 4A state championship.

Reedy, making his fourth straight appearance at the state championship, shot a 71 on Wednesday to reach Thursday's final round of the 36-hole tournament.

Only the top 40 players advanced to the final round.

The course proved to be a little tougher the second day, and Reedy checked in with a 74 for a 36-hole total of 145 strokes.

Eastlake's Kevin Palmer won the title, defeating Michael Jeager and Dylan Stensland from Snohomish in a playoff. All three golfers finished the tournament with 143 strokes.

Oak Harbor sophomore Judd Ford also played in the tournament, shooting a round of 88 on the opening day to finish 76th out of 80 golfers. He failed to make the cut for the final day of play.

At Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, Oak Harbor junior Ashley Johnson, the only Wildcat to qualify for the tournament, carded a 93 on the opening day of play to finish in 68th place. Johnson, who has been playing golf for only about 14 months, also failed to make the cut, but she will be back next year.
