What has been a occasionally dismal season for the Oak Harbor High School soccer team ended on a positive note Wednesday evening at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

Hosting Lake Stevens on senior night, the Wildcats snapped a five game losing streak and shutout the Vikings 2-0.

With the victory, Oak Harbor ends the 2009 campaign with a 6-10 record.

The game was scoreless at the end of the first half of action until sophomore Michael Shevchuk found the net at the 69-minute mark on an assist by Kevin Flavin.

With less than six minutes remaining in the contest junior Greg Wolfe made the score 2-0, beating Viking keeper Michael Pierce on an unassisted goal.

What makes the victory even more satisfying and gives the team something to build on for next year, is the Wildcats have defeated Lake Stevens twice this season. The Vikings, 9-7, are headed for the district playoffs and are the number three seed from the WesCo North.

Senior Jack O'Neil recorded the shutout in goal for Oak Harbor, playing in his final game for the purple and gold.
