Oak Harbor High School tennis players Nick Krantz, Ezra Franklin and Micah Franklin earned berths in the district tournament by placing in the top four at the Wesco North Divisional Championships Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 17 and 17, at Snohomish High School.
Krantz placed fourth in singles, while the Franklins took third in doubles.
The tournament was double-elimination except for the loser-out first round.
The district tournament is 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 23 and 24, at Arlington High School. The top four in singles and doubles advance to the state 3A tournament in the Tri-Cities.
Krantz opened the divisional tournament with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Marysville-Pilchuck’s Trae Tingelstad, then lost to Everett’s Eyler Anderson 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(6).
Krantz then won back-to-back loser-out matches, topping Keaton McBride of Arlington 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and Preston Pierce of Stanwood 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
In the match for third and fourth places, Anderson was awarded third because of his earlier win over Krantz.
Oak Harbor’s other singles entry, Nathaniel Thompson, was edged in the first round 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(6) by Snohomish’s Robert Lee.
The Franklins began doubles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Marysville Getchell’s Walker Braillard and Luke Olason, and followed that win a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Snohomish’s Macen Strickland and Cade Frediani.
The Wildcat pair lost in the semi-finals 6-3, 6-2 to Arlington’s Ben Spores and Ben Nichols.
The Franklins bounced back to beat Cody Perdue and Tomas Ramirez of Arlington 6-0, 7-5 in a loser-out match, and then topped Aaron Kaleb and Treven Southard of Marysville-Pilchuck 6-2, 6-4 in the match for third place.
Wildcats Ridgely Briddell and Samuel Peek lost in their doubles opener 6-3, 6-1 to Conner Peterson and Carson Asper of M-P.
