NWAC’s Rosen ranked fifth

Laura Rosen of the North Whidbey Aquatic Club (NWAC) finished the 2008 competitive swimming season ranked fifth in the nation among 12-year-old girls in the 200-meter butterfly.
Her time of 2:25.74 bested a 32-year-old Pacific Northwest Swimming (PNS) record by two seconds. This is the third consecutive year Rosen has earned a national ranking for her performance in the pool.
Rosen, an eighth-grader at North Whidbey Middle School, said she has been swimming on the North Whidbey Aquajets team since she was 6.
“I’m looking forward to swimming on the high school team next year, but my main goal is to make it through school and graduate,” she said.
Her brother, Yale, swims on the Oak Harbor High School boys team in addition to playing football and baseball.
A versatile swimmer, Laura Rosen also finished in the top 20 nationally in the following events:
12-year-old girls 50-meter format
11. — 1,500 freestyle (18:37.64).
13. — 400 individual medley (5:16.96).
14. — 200 individual medley (2:29.65).
18. — 400 freestyle (4:40.63).
12-year-old girls 25-yard format
13. — 200 butterfly (2:11.81).
11-year-old girls 25-yard format
12. — 1,000 freestyle (11:15.82).
17. — 400 individual medley (4:55.67).
19. — 200 butterfly (2:20.32).
