Oak Harbor takes 2nd in Anacortes tournament | Legion

The Oak Harbor Legion baseball team finished second in the Steamer Invitational this weekend in Anacortes.

The Wildcats defeated the Anacortes Blackhawks 12-4, Ferris of Spokane 4-3, Lake Stevens 10-0 and Monroe 9-7 to earn in berth in the finals, where they lost 9-1 to the host Anacortes Legion team.

The strong tournament lifted Oak Harbor's season record 9-8.

Oak Harbor returns to league action when it travels to Langley to meet South Whidbey (2-3) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 25.

In the win over the Blackhawks, Oak Harbor took advantage of five walks and two hit batters to score 11 runs in the first two innings. Trent Benson doubled, and Kevyn Johnson, Noah Zuniga, Clay Doughty and Preston Rankin hit singles.

Oak Harbor scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Ferris 4-3. Doughty's single drove home the game winner.

Quentin Tungate and Danny Wolfe rapped doubles.

Against Lake Stevens, Benson and Johnson doubled and Rankin added two singles.

Zuniga slugged a two-run double against Monroe, Doughty had a double and single and Tyler Snavely collected two singles.

Wolfe singled twice in the championship game, including driving in Oak Harbor's only run.
