Rodeheffer qualifies for state meet | Track

By placing second in the 1,600 meters at the district track meet Wednesday, May 21, at Shoreline Stadium, Oak Harbor High School's John Rodeheffer earned a return trip to the state meet.

Finals in five boys and four girls events, along with a number of preliminaries, were completed Wednesday. The meet concludes Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The top three in each event qualify for the state meet, and the Wildcats' Taylor Deconzo just missed a spot in the girls javelin, placing fourth with a 110-05.

Rodeheffer, who placed sixth in the state 3,200 last spring, ran the 1,600 in 4:24.96, losing to Shorecrest's Omar Abdulla by three tens of a second.

In other boys finals action, Tyler Adamson placed seventh in the shot put (44-01.5) and Diangelo McKinney 13th in the long jump (17-06.5).

In the girls finals, Alex Laiblin (5:17.23) and Jonalynn Horn (5:22.09) ran sixth and eighth in the 1,600.

The two have a good shot of qualifying for state Friday in the 3,200. Laiblin went to state in the event last year, placing sixth. Horn finished eighth in the state cross country meet last fall.

Hayley Lundstrom (15-02) was 12th and Priya Osborne (14-11.5) 13th in the long jump.

Dejon Devroe led the Oak Harbor qualifiers in the preliminaries by placing second in the boys 400 (50.57).

Others qualifying for the finals were Jared Gray (seventh, boys 300 hurdles, 43.61) and Sierra Seabolt (eighth, girls 100, 13.12).

All of the Oak Harbor relay teams also qualified (names were not reported).
