Wildcats beat Getchell twice | Tennis

The Oak Harbor High School tennis team won a rare doubleheader Thursday, May 1, defeating visiting Marysville Getchell 4-1 and 5-2.

The first match was a continuation of a suspended contest that was started but not finished because of rain March 25 at Getchell (1-9, 3-10).

Some of the players who started the suspended match were not available for the continuation; therefore only five matches were counted in the team score.

The two wins locked up third place in the Wesco North for Oak Harbor (4-7, 7-7).

Winners in the first match for the Wildcats were singles players Faith Franssen, AnnaBelle Whitefoot and Hannah Gluth; and Caterina Amsler and Ellysa Bonganay in doubles.

Results of match two:

Singles: 1, Makenzie Perry lost 6-2, 6-3; 2, Whitefoot won 6-2, 6-4; 3, Franssen won 6-2, 6-0; 4, Amsler won 6-0, 6-2.

Doubles: 1, Zena Husler/Alyssa Eden lost 6-3, 2-6, 10-6; 2, Chelsea Admire/Gluth won 6-2, 6-2; 3, Bonganay/Erina Horikawa won 6-4, 6-2.

Oak Harbor finishes the regular season with two road matches next week, starting with Shorecrest (3-5, 4-7) at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 5.
