Oak Harbor recovers for strong showing | Boys golf

After a shaky performance in a nonleague match Tuesday, the Oak Harbor High School boys golf team rebounded with a solid effort in a five-team conference contest Wednesday, April 30, at the Legion Golf Course in Everett.

Playing at home Tuesday, the Wildcats finished third out of four teams. Meadowdale won with 423 strokes, followed by Mountlake Terrace (430), Oak Harbor (433) and Glacier Peak (441).

Mac Kerfoot shot 79 for Oak Harbor, Hunter Adams 86, Raiden Poe 90, Steven Timm 91 and Aaron Kelley 93.

After the match, coach David Smith said, "I hope we got all the bugs out for tomorrow."

And, for the most part, they did, according to Smith.

"The kids shot great," he said.

Oak Harbor was edged by three strokes by Meadowdale 283-286, making up seven shots on the Mavericks from the previous day.

The match covered 14 holes for a par of 51.

The Wildcats were tightly bunched. Adams led Oak Harbor with a 55. Kerfoot fired a 56, not finishing first for the Wildcats for the first time this season.

They were followed by Poe (57), Mason Dieter (58), Kelley (60) and Timm (61).

Coming into this week, Kerfoot had the fourth-best total in conference points in the Wesco North after two matches with 55. Stanwood's Halen Davis leads with 60.

Kerfoot's efforts have earned him an invitational to the Egbers Invitational at the Skagit Valley Golf and Country Glub at 9 a.m. Friday, May 9.
