After a strong showing at the state championships earlier this month, several members to the Island Flyers gymnastics team will compete at the regional tournament in California May 23-25.

Level 5 and above who qualify will earn a trip to the national meet in June in Spokane.

At the state meet at Summit Gymnastics in Maple Valley April 4, a handful of Flyers took home gold medals in trampoline, tumbling and double mini, including a first-place effort from Halley Geist of Anacortes.

In all, 14 Flyers in levels 1 to 7 competed at state.

The girls, coached by Amy Madson and Cindi Quinn, practice twice a week: Tuesdays at Leaps and Bounds and Fridays at Dimensions Gymnastics in Mount Vernon.
