Short-handed Wildcats drop match to Everett | Tennis
Missing half of its regular starting lineup, the Oak Harbor High School tennis team fell 7-0 to visiting Everett Wednesday, April 9.
Injuries, grades and other commitments cut into the starting lineup, according to coach Horace Mells.
Regardless, Oak Harbor is off to a solid start, winning three of its first five matches this season after winning only three of 16 last season.
"The kids are playing well," Mells said. "They have shown a lot of improvement since last year."
The revamped lineup struggled against Everett (2-0, 3-2).
The Wildcats' strongest efforts came in doubles.
In first doubles, Hannah Gluth and AnnaBelle Whitefoot won the first set 6-1 before being edged in the next two, 6-4, 7-6(6).
In second doubles, Chelsea Admire and Erina Horikawa lost in two close sets, 7-6(6), 7-6(3).
Oak Harbor (0-2, 3-2) hosts Marysville-Pilchuck (0-2, 0-5) at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 14.
