Wildcat open season with win | Soccer

Displaying its depth, the Oak Harbor High School soccer team got the local spring season off to a positive start with a 1-0 win over Ferndale Saturday, March 15, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

The Wildcats were missing several key players but received a strong helping hand from four freshmen to knock off the Golden Eagles in the non-conference match.

Oak Harbor controlled the match from the outset but struggled to find the net until senior Gavin Stewart converted off an assist from Danny Ross with seven minutes left.

Wildcat goalie Kevin Silveira posted the shutout.

Oak Harbor coach Brian Thompson praised the efforts of freshmen JJ Mitchell, Seth Gluth, Kegan Small and Andrew Franssen: "All played well in their first varsity high school game."

"All of the Oak Harbor players did very well for the first time out this season," he added.

The Wildcats host Bellingham in another non-league match at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18.
