Seagulls end Oak Harbor's playoff hopes | Soccer

Everett High School's 1-0 win over visiting Oak Harbor in soccer not only snapped the Seagulls' eight-match losing streak but also ended the Wildcats' hopes of qualifying for the district tournament.

Oak Harbor (2-10, 4-10-1) needed to defeat Everett (2-10, 2-12-1) and Stanwood (4-8, 4-10), who the Wildcats play in the final regular season match at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, to earn a playoff berth.

Everett hadn't won since defeating Oak Harbor 4-0 Sept. 26.

With 20 minutes left in the match, Everett's Bailey Formon scored from long range, just skipping the ball by the Oak Harbor goalkeeper Makenzie Perry for the match's lone goal.

Oak Harbor coach Mike Lonborg said, "The girls played well, but we have to score goals to win. The team has improved with almost every game, but our problem this year has been our lack of offense."

The Wildcats scored just eight goals this fall, and four of those came in one match.

"The girls worked hard and had a few chances (against Everett)," Lonborg said. "Hayley Lundstrom had a strong game at the outside midfield."
