ATM tops Wolves, gets program's 1st win | Tennis

Coupeville was an accommodating host, allowing Archbishop Murphy to win its first ever boys tennis match 3-2 Wednesday, Sept. 18.

For Coupeville, it was its second 3-2 loss this week, the other came at South Whidbey Tuesday. The Wolves (0-2) get another crack at South Whidbey (1-0, 2-2) in Langley at 3:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 19).

In the ATM match, Coupeville recorded wins in the top two doubles matches.

Ben Etzell and Aaron Curtin prevailed 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in first doubles.

Coach Ken Stange said, "Ben and Aaron continue to be dominant. After coughing up a difficult second set, they took command in the third, jumping out to a 5-0 lead before closing out the set 6-2. They made some solid adjustments between sets, and they are shaping into a dependable combo."

In second doubles, Brian Norris and Kyle Bodamer combined for a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win.

Stange said, "I was impressed by their ability to come back into focus for the final set."

Brandon Kelley and Jake McCormick "fought hard" in third doubles, according to Stange, but lost 6-4, 7-5.

In singles action, Sebastian Davis fell 6-4, 6-1; and Dalton Martin lost 6-2, 6-1.
