NWAC sends two more to sectionals

North Whidbey Aquatic Club swimmers John Hu and Yale Rosen qualified for the Northwest Section-Western Zone Short Course Age Group Championships by putting forth stellar performances at the Helene Madison Pool last weekend.

Hu, 12, made six qualifying times, his first ever, and placed in the top six in all of his 10 events. Rosen, 10, made his first qualifying time ever and also placed in the top six in all of his events.

The sectionals will take place in one week at the King County Aquatics Center. The event brings together the top age group swimmers in eight western states.

Other NWAC first place finishers over the weekend included Marissa McDaniel, Amanda Streubel, Nick Streubel and Kyrie Russell.

McDaniel and Russell previously qualified for the sectional meet. They will be joined by teammates Jason Hunter and Nick LaQuet.

NWAC is a North Whidbey Parks and Recreation Department program for competitive swimmers ages six through college. Anyone wishing to join the swim team can tryout at the city pool on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday at 4:45 p.m. New swimmers should be abe to swim the length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. The first two weeks are free.
