Local boys receive second at tournament
July 3, 2008 · Updated 6:56 PM
The U-8 Kings soccer team, containing eight local boys (Caleb Farmer, Christian Farmer, Logan Faught, Stephen Miller, Caley Powers, Dakota Powers, John Rodeheffer and Daniel Wolfe) from Oak Harbor and Coupeville recently took second place at the 2003 Holiday Tournament at the Everett Soccer Arena.
Although the group had previously only played soccer outdoors, they decided to give an indoor tournament a shot. They had their first experience indoors on Dec. 20 when they competed in the Holiday Tournament at the U-9 level. They found indoor soccer to be quite different than outdoor soccer, but adapted quickly and learned enough to return to the tournament 10 days later and almost take the U-8 title.
After winning their first three games, the Kings fell just short of the championship, losing 3-2 in sudden death overtime to the Young Guns of Everett.
