Oak Harbor cheer up for spirit award

The Oak Harbor High School cheerleading squad was selected as one of the 10 national finalists for American School Spirit Award because of excellence in academics, community service, outstanding school athletic support and spirit fund raising events.
The OHHS cheer squad has an overall GPA of 3.3 and were recipients of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association academic award.
When dealing with parcipitation, the team takes part various competitions throughout the year. They finished seventh at the United Spirit Association national competition this year and 2003 Power Athletics National Champions. They also cheer at football games, boys basketball games, girls volleyball matches, girls soccer games, girls basketball games and wrestling matches.
The team has taken advantage of their role as spirit leaders by teaching at after school enrichment programs at local elementary schools and helping with Open House and other school related events.
The group was also noticed for its activity in the community support of promoting businesses, performing at community events, and raising money for different charities.
They are currently featured on Varsity.com and will receive a plaque and letter for this special recognition.
