Golfers tee off at local tournament
July 3, 2008 · Updated 6:49 PM
Over 150 golfers competed at the 39th annual Whidbey Golf and Country Club Invitational last weekend.
Chris Andersen, WGCC member, was the overall champion for the 36-hole event. Andersen won the competition after sinking an eight-foot birdie in a playoff hole against John Henriot. The two golfers both finished the 36 holes at three under par 141.
The three day event provided golfers other options as well. On the first day of action 78 players competed in a horse race, in which teams of two play until there are only three teams remaining. Para mutual wagering was done just like at the race track. The winning team consisted of John Henroit and Doug Bryson from Mount Vernon, while Bill VanCleef and Gene Cushway from WGCC came in second and Ed Beeksma and John McMahon from WGCC came in third.
