"With cheer squad members holding them close to six feet off the ground by just one leg, Oak Harbor cheerleaders Sarah Gohn and Anna Galgana performed a scorpions. The stunt was performed at the Cheertec competition last Saturday at Thomas Jefferson High School in Auburn as the Wildcats' varsity cheerleading team took first place. The squad decided to add more difficulty so there will be no doubt who should win, said Oak Harbor cheer squad captain Susie Eggen. The cheerleaders added four fully-extended scorpions and a new dance section.Oak Harbor beat out two new competitors, Thomas Jefferson High School and Olympic High School, during the Co-Ed division competition. We created a more difficult routine by adding five liberties to arebeques with full-down rotation cradles, said Oak Harbor's head coach Pam Headridge. The guys stepped up to the plate and performed single-base stunting. The routine was performed with energy and precision. The Wildcats junior varsity squad performed just as well as the varsity despite being moved up from the junior varsity division to the Large Varsity Division where they beat out Concrete High School's varsity division to take first alongside the varsity squad. The Wildcats next competition will be Feb. 10 at Mariner High School. We have beat them once and they have beat us once, so this will be an exciting competition, said Eggen.
