"Cross Country League ChampionshipsBoys Scott Sebens defended his league title and set a new course record despite muddy conditions at the League Championshps on Thursday. Sebens ran 15:54 on the course, which beat Ian McKissick's (Kamiak) two-year old record by four seconds. Eric Rooney finished second for the Wildcats. Matt Bezold was Oak Harbor's third runner across the line in 35th place. All year Matt has been our sixth runner but today he ran the best race of his life, said Oak Harbor coach Seth Hodges.When the final results were announced at the League Championships the Oak Harbor team had taken the last available spot, finishing sixth to advance to districts. Although the team ran a solid race, it was not the kind of race that will get them a return trip to the state meet, said coach Seth Hodges. The District Race will be held next Friday at Lincoln Park in West Seattle. On Tuesday the girls defeated Marysville, 104-80, but the relay couldn't lift the team past a strong Kamiak team as they lost the meet, 98-85, in there last meet of the regular season. Coach Patrick Stewart is looking forward to a possible run at state in the relay events.We did realy well, said Stewart. It is nice to see everyone swim fast at the last meet. We are going to go to state in relay. Stewart said he was espesially proud of his seniors, who were honnored before the meet with balloons, cards and flowers, for the job that they had done this year. TennisAfter being shut out Tuesday by Snohomish, Oak Harbor earned its only match victory this week when senior Aziel Epilepsia defeated Casey Clouse of Marysville-Pilchuck in straight sets for an Oak Harbor victory on Wednesday. The team would drop their three other singles' mathces against Marysville and all three doubles contests to end the day 1-6 and drop their record to 0-14.
