"Jet City Oaks still in the leadThe Jet City Oaks, Oak Harbor’s over-30 mens baseball team, split a double header with the Whatcom Mariners on Sunday at Oak Harbour High School.The Mariners handed the Oaks their second loss of the season, besting the Oak Harbor team 8-5 in the first game.Oak’s starting pitcher Bob Serfling weathered eight tough innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits before yielding to Jim Shulock with the score tied at 5-5.Shulock did not fare any better, allowing three runs on four hits with an error to take his first loss of the season.Offensively, the Oaks only highlight featured right fielder Don Jenkins, who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.In the second game, the Oaks bested the Mariners 8-7. Shulock completed seven innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts.Shulock was helped by some offensive power, courtesy of catcher Dave Moody who hit 3-for-3, and designated hitter Dave DeGraff who belted in four RBI’s capped by two-run, game-winning double in the seventh inning to give the Oaks the win.The Jet City Oaks continue to hold down first place in the Quad County Baseball League. The team’s next game is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. against Stanwood in Anacortes. High School holds fall sports signupsInformational and sign-up meetings have been scheduled for all OHHS athletes interested in participating in fall sports. Paperwork packets will be distributed at the meetings. The first day of fall sports practice is Monday, Aug. 21. Monkey Hill Rd. The auction preview starts at 11 a.m. Lunch and the auction itself is at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $20, or $50 for families.
