"For most of Thursday afternoon, Coupeville's Brianne King and Joe Donnellon were running by themselves. King and Donnellon easily outdistanced the distance running class at the Northwest A League track and field meet at Coupeville.King won the girls' 3,200, 1,600, and 800. Donnellon captured the boys' 1,600 and 3,200. The Wolves also received first places from Matt Frost, Rich Wilson, and Yashmeen Knox.In the team standings, both boys and girls team took second. Concrete won the boys' meet with 99 points and Coupeville had 66. LaConner won the girls' meet with 109 points and Coupeville had 72.I'm happy with the finish we had, considering the number of kids we have on the team, Coupeville coach Gary Shelly said, we had some quality efforts.King had no competition in the girls' 3,200, racing by herself around the track to a winning time of 13:32.9. She had one competitor in the 1,600, and cruised to a winning time of 6:05; and King easily bested the two competitors in the 800 to win in 2:46.5.Donnellon bolted to an early lead in the boys' 1,600 and won easily with a time 4:32.6. In the 3,200, Donnellon lapped four runners and in crossed the finish line in 10:26.5. His closest competitor was teammate Corey O'Donnell, who was second in 11:10.1.Joe had an excellent time in the 3,200, for basically running by himself, Shelly said.Matt Frost breezed in the boys' 800, winning in 2:02.9.Wilson took the boys' high jump at 6-feet, 2 inches and was third in the javelin with a personal best of 137-4.Knox out-sprinted the field to take the girls' 100 in 13.4.
