Dragons burn Wolves in OT

"If it was any sign of things to come for Coupeville boys basketball fans, strap yourself in.The Wolves lost a 58-54 overtime thriller to St. George this weekend.It was a game that could only be compared to a rollercoaster ride. First, Coupeville was up, then St. George, then Coupeville, and in the end, St. George.The Dragons’ Tony Longinotti hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in overtime to tie the game at 54-54, and St. George guard Drew Moser hit four free throws down the stretch for the win.It was a disappointing loss for the Wolves, who played well enough to win but were bitten by the Dragons’ 3-point prowess. Moser hit seven on the way to a game-high 28 points. St. George was visiting from the Spokane area, and members of the team spent the weekend with Coupeville families.“It was a tough one, especially coming off a win,” said Coupeville’s Pat Bennett, who led the Wolves with 19 points. “But they’re our guests and we’ll have some fun with them tonight.”Coupeville defeated South Whidbey Friday, and Bennett is optimistic about the Wolves’ chances when league play starts in a week.“We’ve got a lot of team unity,” he said.St. George 58, Coupeville 54 OTDrew Moser, who ended up with 28 points, connected on seven 3-pointers and was 5-for-5 from the free throw line in overtime to lead St. George to the non-conference victory.
