Rockies stay alive | Little League
The Rockies of the North Whidbey Little League remained alive in the Tesarik Tournament in Sedro-Woolley at the expense of another NWLL team, winning 13-2 in five innings over the Mariners Wednesday, June 5.
The Rockies play another elimination game at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 6; a win will lift them into the semifinals.
Four runs in each of the first two innings carried the Rockies to the win.
In the first, Dominic Vacarro, Nick Krantz, Shane Vogt and Micah Franklin singled to score one run. After two outs, Trevor Sheils cleared the bases with a three-run double.
The Rockies held the Mariners scoreless in the second, thanks in part to a fine running catch by center fielder Jared Johnston, then added four more runs on Franklin's inside-the-park grand slam. Vacarro and Krantz singled and Vogt reached on an error to set up Franklin.
The score remained 8-0 until the fifth. The Mariners broke through with two runs, then the Rockies countered with five to 10-run their rivals.
Shiels and Andrew Score singled and moved up on a wild pitch, then Shiels scored on Andrew Dickson's chopper. An error and walk loaded the bases for Krantz, who finished a great day at the plate with a three-run double.
