Oak Harbor hit the ball hard but had trouble throwing it straight and catching it in a nonleague 14-3 loss in six innings at Ferndale Wednesday, April 24.

The Wildcats committed six errors and walked nine to help Ferndale win for the second time this season over Oak Harbor. The Golden Eagles (10-6) nipped the 'Cats 7-5 in extra innings earlier this spring.

Oak Harbor swatted five hits, including three doubles and a home run.

Wildcat assistant coach Todd Showalter said, "We hit the ball harder than they did, they just bunched their hits."

Kat Martinez, making her first varsity start in the circle, took the loss. Ferndale scored four runs in the first inning and added five more over the next two.

Shawna Steele led Oak Harbor with two hits, including a fifth-inning home run, her second round-tripper in two days.

Emily Saar, Nicole Vogt and Hannah Salmons each doubled.

Corrie Wilson paced the Golden Eagles with three hits, two doubles and five RBI.

Oak Harbor (3-5, 4-11) returns to Wesco play at Marysville Getchell (3-5, 5-10) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 26.
