Wind, rain join Wolves, Falcons during meet | Track
If the weather is nasty, it must be the day of a Coupeville High School home track meet.
Amidst the rain and wind, which seems to haunt the Coupeville home meet each spring, South Whidbey defeated the Wolves in both the boys (67-57) and girls (81-54) meets.
Nick Streubel (shot, 42-02; discus, 127-08) and Josiah Campbell (100, 11.99; triple jump, 35-09.5) paced the boys with a pair of wins. Campbell also teamed with Lathom Kelley, Brandon Kelley and Sam Landau to win the 4x100 (47.67).
For the girls, Madison Tisa-McPhee (100 hurdles, 17.13; high jump, 4-08) won two individual events and a relay. She joined Makana Stone, Jai'Lysa Hoskins and Marisa Etzell to take the 4x400 (4:20.9).
Stone, who won the 100 (13.57), Sylvia Hurlburt, Etzell and Hoskins captured the 4x200 (1:51.44).
The boys earned other firsts from Manuel Lopez-Santillana (800, 2:26.87) and Landau (400, 57.76).
Other firsts for the girls came from Rachel Wenzel (javelin, 78-09) and the 4x100 team of Kirsten Pelroy, Courtney Allard, Nicole Becker and Wenzel (59.17).
The Wolves go to the LaConner Invitational at 4 p.m. Friday, April 19.

Second, girls: Pelroy, 400, 62.2; Erin Rosenkranz, 1,600, 6:08.52; 3,200, 13:59.07; Heni Barnes, shot, 25-10.
Third, boys: Jared Helmstadter, 200, 25.83; Dominic Ellis, 800, 2:31.6; Hampton, 1,600, 5:09.87; Carson Risner, discus, 109-07; Streubel, javelin, 103-03; Stephen Edwards, long jump, 15-07; triple jump, 33-03.
Third, girls: Hurlburt, 100, 13.94; Emma Sullivan, 300 hurdles, 54.9; Barnes, discus, 81-02; javelin, 78-09; 4x200, Anna Bailey, Nicole Becker, Sullivan, Wenzel, 2:02.52.
