Jepsen, medley relay heading to state finals | Swimming

Oak Harbor’s Josh Jepsen and the Wildcats’ medley relay team both qualified for the top final heat after finishing among the leading eight in the preliminaries at the state swim meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way Friday.

The 3A finals begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Jepsen finished seventh in 100-yard breaststroke preliminaries with a time of 1:00.98. Teammate Jarik Bainco was 22nd in 1:04.98.

The 200 medley relay of Cedric Cabigting, Jepsen, Caley Powers and Kevin Levy clocked the seventh-best time, 1:41.8.

In other individual events, Powers was 17th in the 100 butterfly (55.51) and Levy 24th in the 50 free (22.5).

Jepsen, Bainco, Powers and Levy placed 11th in both the 200 free relay (1:32) and 400 free relay (3:23.09).

Last year at state, Jepsen was 12th in the breaststroke, Powers 23rd in the butterfly and Levy 27th in the 50.
