A disastrous first half did in the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team in its 56-24 loss at Meadowdale Friday, Jan. 11.

The Wildcats scored only four points in the first quarter to fall behind 14-4; then missed all 10 field goal attempts in the second period, scored just one point and trailed 30-5 at half time.

At one point, Oak Harbor missed 18 consecutive shots.

Poor shooting wasn't the only problem in the first half as the Wildcats committed 13 turnovers.

Things picked up in the second half and Oak Harbor was outscored by only six points, 16-10, in the third period and by one, 10-9, in the fourth.

For the game, the Wildcats shot only 18 percent (9-for-51), while the Mavericks (5-2, 10-4) shot 36 percent (21-for-58).

Oak Harbor's Annie Leete scored 11 points, Ciera Wiser four, Natalie Fiallos four, Jalani Bobo three and Kelsey Rankin one.

Coach Trisha Wieber said, "Meadowdale is a good team and we struggled to handle their pressure. The second half was much improved so we actually competed. Some positives were we did not give in, Natalie started taking the ball all the way to the basket and scoring, and Hayley Lundstrom battled hard against their big girl."

Oak Harbor (2-5, 5-9) hosts Glacier Peak (5-2, 10-4) at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
