Good thing Ciera Wiser is a quick healer.

Wiser played a key role in the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team's 48-44 comeback win over visiting Mountlake Terrace Friday, Jan. 4.

Wiser hurt her knee and had to leave the game in a win over Sedro-Woolley two days before, and it wasn't known until game time whether the senior would be able to play against the Hawks.

Oak Harbor trailed the entire game and was down 40-29 early in the fourth period. Six points by Wiser and four each by Kelsey Rankin and Jalani Bobo helped the Wildcats slice the lead to 44-43.

With 48 seconds remaining, Wiser sank a free throw to tie the game. Wiser then rebounded a Terrace miss and Oak Harbor regained possession with 31 seconds left.

Annie Leete missed for Oak Harbor, but Wiser rebounded and got the ball back to Leete, who was fouled. Leete drilled both free throws with 17.9 seconds left to give Oak Harbor its first lead, 46-44.

Wiser then stole a Hawk pass, led the fast break and fed Leete for a layup to secure the win.

Oak Harbor coach Trisha Wieber said, "We played good defense overall in the fourth quarter which allowed us to come back." Another key factor was taking care of the ball. After committing 23 turnovers in the first three quarters, the Wildcats had only three in the fourth.

Wieber added, "We are so glad that Ciera was able to play."

Seven Oak Harbor turnovers helped Mountlake Terrace (0-5, 2-9) take a 17-9 first-quarter lead. The Hawks led 27-21 at the break.

Rankin had a big offensive night, hitting seven of 10 shots to score 18 points and keep Oak Harbor afloat early.

Leete, Bobo and Wiser finished with 10 points each.

Oak Harbor had a huge advantage at the line, hitting 19 of 26 free throws (73 percent), while the Hawks shot only six, making three.

The Wildcats (2-3, 5-7) go to Shorewood (4-1, 9-3) at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9.
