It is fitting that Oak Harbor High School basketball player Drew Washington wears No. 3 on his jersey.

The junior sharp shooter hit nine three-point shots and riddled host Marysville Getchell for 35 points in the Wildcats’ 76-59 win Thursday, Dec. 20.

The nine long-range buckets is believed to be a school record, according to coach Mike Washington, topping the eight by Drew last season.

Drew Washington wasn’t the only star; Chris Hailer produced his second consecutive double-double, scoring 11 points and hauling in 13 rebounds.

Dayne Herron had 11 points and six boards, JoJo Webster scored eight points, Gabe Groeing six and Dyllan Harris five.

The Wildcats zipped to a 10-0 lead and led 23-12 at the quarter and 38-29 at the half.

The Chargers cut the lead to four in the third quarter but couldn’t take control.

While this was Drew Washington’s game, coach Washington said he likes his team’s offensive depth and “on any given night, we have several kids who can put up big numbers.”

The win put the Wildcats in second place in the Wesco North after the first round with a 3-1 mark, 4-2 overall.

Oak Harbor goes to Ferndale (3-4) for a nonleague game at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21.
