Stanwood used a long-range attack and controlled the boards to put away the visiting Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team 47-25 Friday, Dec. 7.

The Spartans outscored Oak Harbor 21-0 from beyond the arc and out rebounded the Wildcats 39-23 to take the Wesco 3A North opener for both schools.

Stanwood also had a much better shooting night, hitting 39 percent (19-for-49) of its shots to only 23 percent (90-for-39) for Oak Harbor.

The Wildcats (0-1, 1-2) continued to struggle with turnovers, committing 28, but the mistakes weren't the main culprit in the loss as the Spartans tallied 25 of their own.

Annie Leete scored 12 points for Oak Harbor, Ciera Wiser four, Kelsey Rankin four, Deja Bunch two, Liz Lym two and Natalie Fiallos one. Wiser also had five steals; the 4-10 Fiallos led Oak Harbor with five rebounds.

The Spartans (1-0, 3-1) controlled the game from the get-go, leading 19-4 after the first quarter. They only outscored Oak Harbor by two point during the middle two periods, leading 28-13 at the break and 39-22 at the end of the third quarter.
