Eleven Flyers win titles

Moving & Grooving’s Island Flyers tumbling team had a great outing at the Tiptoe Through the Tulips meet in Mount Vernon Saturday, April 19, and brought home 11 event championships.

Eight-year-old Colby Russell was a three-event champion, winning the Level 3 trampoline competition, the Level 4 tumbling and the Level 5 double mini.

Hannah Barnes, age seven, was a double winner, capturing the Level 3 trampoline and Level 5 double mini championships. She also placed third in Level 3 tumbling.

Darian Hill, age 12, was also a double champion, taking the gold medals in the Level 5 trampoline and Level 8 tumbling. He also finished in second place in the Level 7 double mini.

Amelia Berner and Juliet Aspery, both age 11, tied for first place in the Level 4 trampoline event.

Berner won the Level 5 tumbling and finished fourth in Level 5 double mini.

Aspery was second in Level 5 double mini and third in Level 5 tumbling.

Eight-year-old Grace Vandelac was the Level 4 tumbling champions and placed fifth in the Level 4 trampoline and Level 5 double mini events.

Lauren Aspery, age nine, finished in the top five in the tumbling, mini trampoline and double mini disciplines.

Sea Cucumbers win NWAC meet

The Sea Cucumbers scored 438 points to narrowly defeat the Flaming Flamingoes with 419 points in the last fifth annual North Whidbey Aquatic Club Spring Intersquad Swim Meet at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool April 19 and 20.

The lead changed hands several times, but, the Sea Cucumbers were finally able to shoot down the Flamingoes.

Despite losing the team competition, the Flamingoes flew highest in individual event wins with Josh Jepsen and Kasha Trisler each winning all five of their events.

Other event winners for their respective teams included Mollie Briddell, Nick Fromme, John Hu, Price Hu, Laura Rodeheffer, Marisa Sligh and Olivia Tungate.

Point scorers, those finishing in the top six, were Noah Allison, Shawna Boyes, Irysh Concepcion, Karina Concepcion, Ryan Cuajunco, Therese Desquitado, Tricia Desquitado, Lindsey Hansen, Gaby Hert, Natalie Hert, Sam Hines, Ciara Hu, Emily Huffer, Kelly Huffer, Jacob Jepsen, Josh Jepsen, Spencer Livermore, Olivia Meyer, Tori Nickerson, Caley Powers, Mara Powers, Michelle Robinson, John Rodeheffer, Laura Rosen, Brandon Vagt, Bryce Vagt and Molly Vagt.

In their next aquatic challenge, the Cucumbers and Flamingoes will join forces to try to win the Bellingham Pentathlon April 26 at Arne Hanna Swim Center.
