Wildcats fall to Panthers
Second place Snohomish had little trouble defeating Oak Harbor 7-0 in a Monday WesCo North tennis match.
Sunny skies and a lack of wind were no help for the Wildcats whose record fell to 2-9 in the league.
Only Jennifer Jansen in second singles and the second doubles team of Aimee Flores and Myra Veltkamp managed to win a set against the powerful Panthers.
Jansen started strongly against her opponent, Mara Dillinger winning the first set 6-3, but she dropped the second set 6-2 and was defeated 6-3 in the third and deciding set.
After losing the first set 6-2 to the Snohomish duo of Daielle Elliot and Kirst Perron, Flores and Veltkamp rallied in the second set to pick up a 7-5 victory. However, Elliot and Perron dominated the third set 6-2 to win the match.
Snohomish has a very strong, very well coached team, said Oak Harbor coach Horace Mells. Right now, they are one of the top three teams in the league.
The Wildcats next home match is Wednesday, May 2, against Monroe.
