Winter season means double duty for Oak Harbor High School cheer coach Robin Gohn as the Wildcats feature both competitive and sideline squads.

The competitive team is a veteran group, consisting of 13 letter winners. Of the 13, 10 are seniors: Chylah Bass, Jade Brown, Micaiah Davis, Jember Jansen, Jenny Landingin, Tyler O’Dell, Bri Quinn, Sadie Strain, Cristey Wolniakowski and Rae Wynne.

Gohn said, “This is the most experienced competition team that Oak Harbor has seen in quite some time. Most of these cheerleaders have been on the comp team together previously and know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, as do the coaches. They are very focused this season and are anxious to put together a routine that will get the job done.”

The first competition is Saturday, Dec. 15, at Kentwood High School’s Holiday Invitational.

The 22-member sideline squad will be built around two letter winners, Rachael Balasa and Gina Jaeger, and five returnees from the fall team.

Gohn said the 15 new members have “strong, natural cheer talent” and that “adding so many first-time cheerleaders to the program will make for an exciting winter season and a solid foundation moving into the future.”
