Huffer leads Oak Harbor to 12th in state meet | Swimming

Lifted by Emily Huffer's four top-eight efforts, the Oak Harbor High School swim team placed 12th in the state 3A state meet Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Mercer Island High School, coached by Oak Harbor graduate Chauntelle Johnson, won its fourth consecutive state title with 376 points. Johnson was honored for her team's success by being named Coach of the Year at the meet. Oak Harbor earned 79 points

Huffer, a sophomore, was edged by .05 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke to finish second in 56.23. She also placed sixth in the 100 butterfly (58.35).

Huffer teamed up with Therese Desquitado, Marissa Morris and Akasha Trisler to place seventh in the 200 free relay (1:44.38) and eighth in the 200 medley relay (1:54.9).

Freshman Morris added a 15th in the 500 free (5:25.37) and a 16th in the 200 free (2:04.72).

Senior Trisler placed 20th in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.2) and 21st in the 200 individual medley (2:21.41).

Desquitado, a senior, joined sophomores Mollie Briddell, Nicole Vogt and Lauren Vagt to finish 19th in the 400 free relay (3:59.82), and junior Hannah Schroeder was 20th in the 500 free (5:44.11).
