Wildcat players finish 7th in district singles tournament | Tennis

Oak Harbor's David Kusnick and William Southard tied for seventh in the District 1 3A singles tennis tournament at Stanwood Tuesday, Oct. 23.

In the opening round Kusnick, the North division's No. 3 seed, lost to the South's No. 2 seed Patrick Luangrath of Glacier Peak 6-1, 7-5. Southard, the North's No. 4 seed, fell to Nick Ekern, the No. 1 South seed from Meadowdale, 6-1, 6-1. Ekern went on to take the district title; Luangrath placed third.

In the consolation bracket, Kusnick fell to the South's No. 4 seed Andrew Copsey of Shorecrest 6-2, 6-3; and Southard lost to Logan Keebler, the South's No. 3 seed from Shorewood, 6-1, 6-3.

With the losses, the Oak Harbor pair was eliminated from district play; the top three advanced to the state tournament.
