Unable to keep the momentum of a first-game win, the Coupeville High School volleyball team lost 3-1 to Archbishop Murphy Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Everett.
The Wolves jumped on the Wildcats (7-5, 7-6) early, winning the first set 25-22, but then dropped the next three 18-25, 17-25, 18-25.
"We played pretty well," said Coupeville coach Toni Crebbin. She was particularly pleased with her team's serving, hitting 96 percent of its serves after a season-worse 84 percent when the two teams met early this fall.
Hailey Hammer connected on all 25 of her serves, and Amanda Fabrizi was 18-for-18 with three aces.
Crebbin lauded her defense for making "a lot of great saves" and "great hustle."
The offense was led by Bessie Walstad with 12 kills; she also had three stuff blocks.
Madeline Strasburg "played her best match ever" and "played really smart" while adding six kills, Crebbin said.
Coupeville (2-10, 3-10) plays its annual Senior Night match at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, against Granite Falls (3-9).
