Wildcats win 4-team meet | Cross country

The Oak Harbor cross country teams closed out the Western Conference regular season with wins in a four-team meet at Shoreline's Hamlin Park Thursday, Oct. 4.

The Oak Harbor girls edged Shorecrest 40-42; Mountlake Terrace followed with 64 and Cascade 75.

The Wildcats boys topped Mountlake Terrace, Cascade and Shorecrest 29-39-75-94.

Oak Harbor goes to the 74-team Hole in the Wall Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Lakewood High School.

The girls used the 2-3 finish of Christina Wicker (23:03) and Alex Laiblin (23:04) over the 5,000-meter course to slide by Shorecrest. The Scots' Gigi Vujovich won in 22:21.

Coach Eric Peterson said, "The girls ran well with Alex Laiblin and Christina Wicker working together and making their way through the lead pack for the Wildcats. Ashley Everett ran the breakout race of the day with a great time and finish for this 5K."

Everett placed 10th in 24:10.

John Rodeheffer (18:30) won the boys race as Oak Harbor placed five in the top 12: Clayton Richardson, third, 19:02; Jason Salas, sixth, 19:11; Patrick Mayer, seventh, 19:25; and Isaac Matthews, 12th, 19:44.

Peterson said, "The boys ran with a plan today performing really well. John held the lead from the start, cruising to an easy win. Great performances came from Isaac Matthews and Clay Richardson helping to carry the team."
