The Coupeville volleyball team has seen this before.
It has played two matches this season, dropping both 3-0 by identical game scores (25-21, 25-22, 25-14); the latest at Lakewood Tuesday, Sept. 11.
In both matches Coupeville played well early then its offense disappeared.
Against the Cougars, the Wolves led most of the first set before a late Lakewood surge.
Coach Toni Crebbin said, "We couldn't pull our offense together after that; we couldn't find our groove…When we did get a chance, we would tip or hit it safely."
She added, "Young or not, we shouldn't play worse as the games go on."
Defensively, the Wolves' digs "were okay," Crebbin said, but Coupeville struggled with serve receive, which added to the offensive woes.
Bessie Walstad collected four kills and 17 digs, and Megan Oakes dished out 11 assists.
"We need to refocus tomorrow, we need to refocus in practice," Crebbin said, to prepare for rival South Whidbey.
The Wolves (0-2) host the Falcons (0-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.
