Sedro-Woolley comeback clips Oak Harbor | Babe Ruth
Three turned out to be a lucky number for the Sedro-Woolley 13/14 Babe Ruth team in its 10-7 district tournament win in eight innings over Oak Harbor in Burlington Monday, July 2.
Despite the loss, Oak Harbor will advance to the state Babe Ruth tournament in Port Angeles July 19.
Sedro-Woolley now faces Burlington-La Conner Thursday to determine the No. 1 seed out of district for state.
Oak Harbor takes on the loser Friday to decide the second and third seeds.
Down 6-1, Sedro-Woolley scored three runs in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings -- all with two outs -- to rally for the district win.
Walks, errors and timely doubles helped Sedro-Woolley mount the comeback.
Oak Harbor went up 2-0 in the third. Kevyn Johnson was hit by a pitch, Robert Herring singled and Sean Erskine drove them home with a hit.
Oak Harbor added four runs in the fourth. Preston Rankin singled, Noah Zuniga was hit by a pitch and Ryan Valencia dropped down a bunt. A ground out by Tyler Snavely scored one run, Herring doubled in two more, then Quentin Tungate singled in the fourth.
After Sedro-Woolley scored three in the fifth, Oak Harbor tallied its final run on singles by Christian Bertram and Rankin.
Coach Bill Young said, "In spite of the shortcomings, this was a very well played game for the most part."
The defense made some mistakes, but Zuniga, Erskine, Rankin, Bertram, Johnson and Snavely all made "great plays," according to Young.
