Burlington overcomes quick Coupeville start | Legion

Burlington used a big fourth inning to overcome a fast Coupeville start to defeat the visiting Merchants 16-8 Wednesday, June 6, in Legion A baseball.
Coupeville's game with Mount Vernon Thursday was postponed. The Merchants (2-3) host Longview this weekend, playing at 2 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
Against Burlington, Coupeville scored three in the first to take an early lead on Jake Tumblin's RBI double and Aaron Trumbull's two-run single.
The Merchants still led 7-3 going into the bottom of the fourth, then the Sox sent 13 batters to the plate, cracked seven hits (three for extra bases) and scored seven runs for a 10-7 lead.
Coach Willie Smith said, "Once they started rolling, we couldn't stop them."
Kurtis Smith led the Merchant offense with two hits and three runs scored.
