For the second year in a row, Sam Petersen will represent Oak Harbor and CrossFit Whidbey in the international Reebok CrossFit Games July 13 to 15 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Petersen, the defending regional champion, finished second at this year's six-state regional in Puyallup May 25 to 27 to earn another berth in the world games.

Cheryl Brost of Eugene edged Peterson 18-19 for the 2012 regional title as the pair dominated the field. Kirkland's Allison King was a distant third with 44 points.

Melissa Dixon of Whidbey CrossFit placed sixth at 62.

Petersen placed seventh in the first of six events, then rallied over the next five to grab second place. She posted the best marks among the 36 women in two of the six events; the seventh place in the first exercise was her lowest effort.

As a team, CrossFit Whidbey placed 19th out of 30.
