Mitch Pelroy and Larry Hurlburt will represent Coupeville High School at the 1A state track meet Thursday and Friday, May 25 and 26, at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

The pair earned the state trip by placing among the top five in their events at the tri-district championships Thursday and Saturday, May 17 and 19, at King's in Shoreline.

Pelroy qualified in three events, winning the 300 hurdles (41.26) and placing fourth in the 100 (11.52) and 200 (22.95). His hurdle time is the ninth best in Washington among 1A runners this spring.

Hurlburt finished fourth in the 400 (52.97).

Each just missed out in qualifying in another event by finishing sixth in the 4x400 relay (3:38.81) with Matthew Hampton and Sam Landau.

In other tri-district action, Nick Streubel placed 12th in the shot put (40-09.5) and discus (117-09).

For the girls, Grace LaPoint was ninth in the javelin (94-06) and Jai'Lysa Hoskins 15th in the high jump (4-04).

In team scoring, the Coupeville boys finished ninth out of 21 teams with 28 points. Orting took the title with 86. King's won the girls meet with 106 points; Coupeville did not score.

Pelroy qualified for state last year and placed ninth in the 400.
