By placing third at district this week, Oak Harbor golfer Annie Leete qualified for her second consecutive state golf tournament -- and this time she will play.
Last spring the Wildcat sophomore missed the state championship so she could attend her brother's graduation ceremony at the United States Naval Academy.
Leete shot a two-day total of 171 at district at the Lake Padden Golf Course in Bellingham Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15 and 16.
Shorewood's Cassie McKinley was medalist with a 151, and Everett's Jody Barhanovich shot a 169 for second in the 12-team event.
Shorewood took the team title with a 516. Oak Harbor placed sixth with a 544.
Leete fired an 86 the first day, teammate KC Winfield shot a 109, Cassidy Gurich 113, Bree Roderos 115, Katie Brockway 121 and Hannah Crouse 138.
Gurich and Roderos just missed the cut of 112.
Leete carded an 84 the second round. Winfield shot 106 for a two-day mark of 215 and placed 24th out of 65 golfers.
The first 15 picked up spots in the state championships at the Esmeralda Golf Course in Spokane Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22 and 23.
