Molly Johnson of Vashon Island defeated Coupeville's Allie Hanigan 6-3, 6-3 in a play-in match at Coupeville Monday, May 14, for a berth in the tri-district tennis tournament.

Hanigan finished third in the district tournament but received the opportunity to compete in the play-in match because the second-place finisher had a conflict and isn't able to play at tri-district.

Coach Ken Stange said, "Allie played well but fell a bit short in both sets. Her season may be over, but she showed considerable growth this year as a player and next year she will be a difficult opponent to beat."

District champions Emily Burchfield, singles, and Amanda d'Almeida and Lexi Blanchette, doubles, will represent Coupeville at tri-district in Seattle Thursday, May 17, at the Amy Yee Tennis Center.
