Oak Harbor boys 2nd after opening day of league meet | Track

The Oak Harbor boys are second and the girls fifth after the first day of the nine-team Wesco 3A track championships Wednesday, May 9, at Shoreline Stadium.

Finals were completed in only five boys events and four girls events. Most of the day was dedicated to preliminary heats for Friday's finals, which begin at 5 p.m.

The Shorewood boys scored 42 points Wednesday, one better than Oak Harbor. Glacier Peak leads the girls with 57 points; the Wildcats picked up 17.

Josh Schrum (4:20.84) and Matt Reith (4:31.87) went 1-4 in the 1,600.

Chris Hailer finished third in the high jump (5-10); Jacob Olson was seventh (5-06).

Jeremy Foster (45-02.75) and Dayne Herron (44-02) placed fifth and seventh in the shot put.

Cody Hernkind was sixth in the long jump (19-01), two spots ahead of Dejon Devroe (18-11).

Josh McVey placed sixth in the pole vault (11).

For the girls, Dominique Jackson took third in the discus (106-05) and sixth in the javelin (89-11). Ciera Wiser also placed in the javelin, taking fourth (99-11).
