A single goal by Cedar Park Christian of Bothell held up in a 1-0 win over Coupeville in a loser-out match in the first round of tri-district at Sammamish High School in Bellevue Sarturday, May 5.
Taking advantage of a Coupeville (10-8) defender who slipped, CPC (10-4-3) fired a cross to Steven Dressler who scored with a powerful header from close range at the 16-minute mark, according to Coupeville coach Paul Mendes. The score was Dressler's 20th of 2012.
Mendes said, "It was a hard-fought, physical match…They were a strong team, but we played them toe to toe, creating multiple opportunities of our own, especially in the second half. The game ended on an all out frantic effort in their goal mouth, with numerous saves and blocked shots, that ended with the final whistle.
He added, "This has been a great group, that faced the highs and lows with outstanding senior leadership and team unity. They put together a fine run and I am quite proud of them."
