Shorecrest scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Oak Harbor fastpitch team 4-3 in extra innings Wednesday, May 2.
The loss spoiled an exciting seventh-inning comeback by the Wildcats. With two outs and down 3-2, McKenzie DeMarsh singled and Samm Zimmerman tripled to send the game into extra innings.
The loss also spoiled a strong outing by pitcher Emily Saar. Saar pitched a six hitter, struck out six and walked four.
She took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning when her defense made three errors to help the Scots score three runs to go on top 3-2.
Shawna Steele, Marissa Fakkema, Morgan Young and Natalie Fiallos also singled for the Wildcats.
Oak Harbor hosts Marysville Getchell at 4 p.m. Friday, May 4, and Shorewood at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 7. Oak Harbor and Shorewood will finish a suspended game that was tied when rain halted the contest earlier this year before starting new game.
