Meadowdale broke open a close game with five runs over the fifth and sixth innings to stop the visiting Oak Harbor fastpitch team 6-1 Monday, April 30.

The Mavericks scored in the bottom of the first, then the Wildcats finally scored the equalizer in the top of the fourth.

With one out, Emily Saar doubled and Bri Patton came in as a courtesy runner. Kelsey Ranking followed with a single, then after a strikeout, Hannah Salmons singled in Patton.

Coach Jess Weikle said, "The girls played well, they were just out hit."

She added, "They played to support each other and made great decisions in the field."

Pitcher Saar held the Mavericks (7-4, 8-5) in check until they plated three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull away.

Marissa Fakkema and Shawna Steele also had hits for the Wildcats.

Oak Harbor (1-10, 3-12) goes to Shorecrest (5-6, 8-6) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 2.
