It was a roller coaster ride, but the Coupeville High School fastpitch team got the biggest thrill in its 16-15 win over visiting Lakewood Wednesday, March 21.

Hailey Hammer's bookend big blasts propelled the Wolves in the seesaw slugfest.

Her two-run triple in the first inning helped Coupeville jump to an early lead, then her double off the fence in the seventh helped salvage the win.

The Cougars (1-1) scored twice in the top of the seventh to take a one-run lead.

Bessie Walstad started the Coupeville half of the seventh with a walk, then scored on Hammer's blast. Hammer moved to third on the play at the plate, then scored the game winner when the Lakewood shortstop bobbled a grounder off the bat of MaKayla Bailey, who also picked up the pitching win.

Hammer finished the day with three hits, two runs and four RBI. Ali Trumbull also rapped three hits and added two runs and two RBI.

Bailey had a hit, two runs and three RBI; Madeline Roberts and Taya Boonstra each had singles and scored two runs; and Sydney Aparicio had a single, run and RBI.

Coupeville (1-1, 2-2) goes to Archbishop Murphy (1-1) at 4 p.m. Friday, March 24.
